PhD Funded Studentship in Computational Physics (or Applied Mathematics)

School of Maths and Physics

University of Lincoln

The School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Lincoln is seeking an exceptional doctoral candidate in Computational Physics or Applied Mathematics.
The successful candidate will join the dynamic and rapidly growing Computational Physics Group (http://comp-physics-lincoln.org) and work on computer modelling of collective dynamics in active matter, such as large system of self-propelling particles. Examples of such systems found in nature are: flocks of birds, schools of fish, ants, groups of bacteria, etc. These systems develop coherent motion, amazing the observer by the diversity of its forms and shapes. The general aim of this project is to construct computational models to describe the collective behaviour of self-propelling particles observed in nature.
Tuition Fees included (capped at UK/EU fee level)
Stipend/Living allowance: £14,296 per annum
Start date 1st October 2016
Duration: 42 months
Reference: CS2016MP
Candidates must have a first class or an upper second class honours degree, or an appropriate Masters degree or equivalent. A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) will be required, where appropriate.
