Fellowships/Scholarships - Personalized Medicine and Drug Design

Description

The Personalized Medicine Laboratory (LAMPER) of CIATEJ at Guadalajara Unit (National Council of Science and Technology, CONACYT, Mexico) is looking for talented Master and PhD students as well as scientists at all career stages (Postdoc, Junior, Senior, Sabbatical leaves). The candidate must submit a proposal about one of the following themes (the proposal is for the selection process and may be subject to major changes):

• In silico design and optimization of antimicrobial peptide elicitors and inhibitors (APEs and APIs)
• In silico off-target profiling and other side-effects predictions
• Pathway characterization/modelling of induction/repression of human antimicrobial peptides
• In silico/in vitro/in vivo impact of polymorphisms in human promoters of antimicrobial peptide genes relevant in tuberculosis, leprosy, HIV/AIDS, periodontitis, psoriasis, Crohn disease, ulcerative colitis. Proposals on diabetes, obesity, lysosomal and hemoglobin diseases can be also considered (we have a LAMPER´s proprietary software to perform the in silico prediction)
• Molecular characterization of these diseases (genome, variome, mirnome, transcriptome, proteome, etc.)
• Personalized therapy and clinical studies based upon APEs/APIs and patient´s genotypes in the above-mentioned diseases.

Duration of the positions: 2.5 years (BIM1, International Master Fellowship), 2 years (MIB4, CONACYT´s Master in Biotechnology Innovation), 4 years (DIB1, CONACYT´s Doctorate in Biotechnology Innovation), 1-2 years (PNC3, National Postdoc CONACYT), 3 years (IC1, International Researcher), up to 5 years (JI1- Junior Researcher; IS1-Senior Researcher), 6-12 months (SIE1 Sabbatical Leave, SME1 Sabbatical leave for Mexicans Abroad or in Mexico).
Payment and benefits
$1,645-2,000 USD/monthly plus research costs up to $46,295 USD (IC1)-$92,590 USD (JI1),  $92,590 USD plus 1 technician per year (IS1), health insurance up to $1,000 USD (SIE1, SME1), plus SNI members payment according to level (Mexicans in IC1, PNC3, JI1, IS1 and SME1 positions).

Desired skills and experience

Qualifications. Graduate (for BIM1)/PhD in biology, biomedicine, chemistry, pharmacology, bioinformatics or similar.
General skills. Professionals looking for excellence, searching for disruptive innovations, with effective communication, having proactivity, vision and originality, efficient alone or in team working.
Specific skills. Expertise in one or more of the following: Python programming, systems biology, gene regulation, advanced statistics, personalized medicine, pharmacology, drug design and in silico optimization, docking, side effects prediction, relative gene expression by Real Time PCR (Pffafl)/Luminex-MAGPIX.

Experience. Years of postdoc experience: 0-3 years (IC1, PNC3), 3-6 years (JI1), >6 years (IS1, SIE1, SME1)
