As part of our new Strategic Plan (2015-2020), we are committed to expanding our research excellence, and nurturing the next generation of researchers as well as our existing research staff. We recognise the essential contribution our postgraduate community can make in the pursuit of research excellence and impact.
Up to 50 Fully-funded PhD Studentships
We now invite applications for up to 50 fully-funded PhD studentships for 2016 across a broad range of disciplines.
Studentships are available in the following research areas:
• Art and Design, History, Practice and Theory
• Built Environment, Planning and Housing
• Arts and Humanities
• Law
• Social Work and Health
• Politics and International Relations
• Psychology
• Sociology
• Geography, Environmental Studies and Archaeology
• Biomedical Sciences
• Computer Science
• General Engineering; molecular science, LCD microfluidics and imaging technology
• Sports Science
The Vice-Chancellor’s Researcher Development Scheme
Exceptional candidates will be offered the opportunity to become a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar with the option of a one-year position as a full-time Research Associate.

University Alliance Doctoral Training Alliance
Projects in Biomedical Science may also be part of the new University Alliance Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA)
This new initiative builds on the strength of our research and provides training to produce independent, highly-employable researchers with knowledge, expertise and skills in strategically-important research areas.
UK and EU Students are fully funded for up to three years, including a generous stipend of up to £14,000 per year and travel and subsistence to enable researchers to interact with colleagues across the Doctoral Training Alliance.
Midlands3Cities
Midlands3Cities DTP (M3C) are awarding a number of PhD Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships for UK/EU applicants for 2016 entry. M3C is a collaboration between the universities of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Leicester, De Montfort, Birmingham and Birmingham City.
