Project Description
Five studentships from ten projects collaborating with three schools – School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (AFRD), School of Biology (SoB) and School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CeGS) administered by AFRD, to choose from based on the Institute for Agri-Food Research and Innovation’s current research themes.
1. Foodborne disease risk mitigation interventions in the domestic environment – An Interdisciplinary Analysis – (AFRD)
2. Better use of molluscicide pellets for improved management of slugs – (SoB)
3. Monitoring within-field variability in crop health with unmanned aerial vehicles– (CeGS)
4. Determination of glucosinolates and other phytochemicals and their relevant metabolites in vegetables and human tissues – (AFRD)
5. Elucidating the biochemical pathways of Vitamin A absorption in individuals with environmental enteric dysfunction – (AFRD)
6. Bioefficacy and consumer acceptance of vitamin D enriched eggs for human health - (AFRD)
7. Metabolomic profile of preimplantation embryos exposed in vitro to bacterial lipopolysaccharide – (AFRD)
8. Modulating plant immunity using cryptic viruses– (SoB)
9. Developing methodologies to understand the degradation and adsorption of macromolecule biopesticides in soil – (CeGS)
10. Tuber yield response and its interaction with source, site and acclimatisation – (AFRD)
5 studentships will be awarded. Students will be based at Newcastle University or Fera Science in York.

tuition fees at UK/EU rate plus an annual stipend of £14,296.
Successful non-EU international students will be required to make up the
difference between the UK/EU fees and international fees.
