About us

The International Doctoral Innovation Centre (IDIC) is a pioneering doctoral training centre established at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) in 2012. The IDIC is a joint venture between UNNC, The University of Nottingham, Ningbo Education Bureau, Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), along with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the UK.
We aim to train 100 of the brightest early career PhD researchers over six years, focussing on the areas of digital economy and energy technologies. Their training here at UNNC will help develop innovative solutions that will address major global academic and industry challenges. We encourage enthusiastic candidates from a variety of academic backgrounds to apply for our prestigious PhD scholarships.
As well as supporting PhD research, the IDIC will establish long-term cooperation between leading UK and Chinese universities and industry, and provide a substantive platform for developing collaborative research and knowledge transfer activities between the two nations.
This major initiative draws on The University of Nottingham’s experience of running Doctoral Training Centres in the UK. The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and Ningbo Municipal Government have also played a key role in bringing the project to fruition.
The unique model integrates a number of co-dependent strands to achieve an exciting new environment for world-leading research. The partners include Horizon Digital Economy Doctoral Training Centre and the Centre in Efficient Fossil Energy Technologies.
