Our Department of Economics at the University of Bath is pleased to announce a number of scholarships for PhD students.Each scholarship covers tuition fees (either fully or partially) and is available to students who pursue their PhD research under the supervision of at least one member of staff in the Department of Economics.
Eligibility
These scholarships are open to full-time Home, EU and International (non-EU) students who begin a PhD in Economics in the academic year 2016-2017.
Scholarships
Each scholarship comprises:
- tuition fees (either fully or partially)
- partial stipend (to cover some of the living expenses) up to the value of £6,900 per year
- The scholarships are awarded to exceptionally well-qualified students.
Each scholarship is initially awarded for the first 18 months from the date of registration on the PhD. At the end of this period, successful candidates may also be awarded an extension of the scholarship for a further 18 months, if they produce evidence of excellent performance.

Requirements
Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria:
- academic excellence:
- a Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSc or equivalent) with excellent qualifications (1st class, or equivalent) in economics, finance, mathematics or related areas
- a Master’s degree (MSc or equivalent) with excellent qualifications (Distinction of 70% overall or equivalent) in economics, finance, mathematics, statistics or related areas
- an outstanding proven knowledge of economics, statistics and mathematics
- an exceptional research proposal that fits well with the research interests of at least one member of staff in the Department of Economics
Appropriate research
Applications are invited for research projects in any area of economics of interest for potential applicants.
