Postgraduate studentships in Social Sciences at Durham University & Newcastle University North East Doctoral Training Centre


 

The North East Doctoral Training Centre (NEDTC) is offering 50 fully-funded postgraduate studentships for 2016 entry. The studentships are open to outstanding postgraduate researchers in Social Sciences.
The NEDTC is a joint venture between the universities of Durham and Newcastle, is one of the largest and most innovative of the ESRC's national network of doctoral training centres. We are a centre of excellence for postgraduate social science scholarship, offering students a world-class, interdisciplinary environment for doctoral training and research.
The Award
We provide a comprehensive and attractive package of financial support over the duration of study, including payment of tuition fees and a doctoral stipend at the UK Research Councils’ minimum level of £14,057 per annum for 2016. Awards are made for a variety of different studentships including entry directly from undergraduate study or following Master’s level study.
Eligibility
Applicants for the NEDTC studentships will usually hold a first-class or good upper-second undergraduate degree. Students applying with a Master’s level qualification should also demonstrate performance at or around distinction level.

Candidates must consult their prospective department or school in the relevant university to discuss their research plans and check that there is a member of staff who can supervise their chosen thesis before making a formal online application to study.
The application deadline for the funding scheme is Monday 1 February 2016 at 5pm.

Applicants must be United Kingdom citizens or residents of another European Union country in all subject areas, except Economics and Finance where studentships are open to all students regardless of their nationality. European Union applicants who have not been resident in the UK for the three years prior to the start of their studentship are eligible for a fees-only award from the ESRC.
