In 2014, the Centers for Disease
Control reported 9,412 new cases of tuberculosis (TB). TB elimination
is defined as 1 case per million population and with an estimated
population in the United States (July 2014) of almost 319 million, this
would result in only 319 cases – we have a long way to go in order to
reach this ambitious goal.
In this webinar, Dr. Max Salfinger
(National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado) will provide an overview
of the TB epidemic in the United States and abroad as well as the
various molecular laboratory assays used to diagnose TB. Each laboratory
plays an integral role in an overarching system comprised of health
care providers, the laboratory community (hospital, commercial, public
health and reference laboratories) and TB control.
Dr. Salfinger will answer questions from webinar attendees so be sure to come prepared with your questions!
